AI in Daily Life and in Pakistan

You probably use AI many times a day without noticing it.

AI You Use Every Day

WhereWhat the AI does
Phone keyboardPredicts your next word and fixes spelling
YouTube, TikTok, InstagramChooses which videos to show you next
Google Maps and ride appsPredicts traffic and the fastest route
EmailMoves spam out of your inbox
Banking appsFlags strange payments that may be fraud
CameraImproves photos, blurs backgrounds, scans documents
ChatbotsAnswer questions, explain topics, help write and code

AI in Pakistan

AI use is growing fast in Pakistan, often in practical, low-cost ways:

  • Education: students use AI chatbots to understand difficult topics in simple Urdu or English, practise for exams and get feedback on essays.
  • Freelancing: many Pakistani freelancers use AI tools to write drafts, design faster and write code, so they can take more projects on platforms like Fiverr and Upwork.
  • Banking and fintech: banks and mobile wallets use AI to detect fraud and to answer customer queries through chat.
  • Farming: apps help farmers check crop health from photos and plan watering based on weather predictions.
  • Health: AI tools help doctors read scans and help clinics manage appointments.
  • Small businesses: a shop in Saddar can use AI to write product descriptions, reply to WhatsApp customers and plan social media posts.
  • Government services: number-plate cameras and digital systems that process applications.

A Small Business Example

Imagine Ali runs a mobile accessories shop in Karachi. He keeps a simple sales record. Even a few lines of Python can find useful patterns before he uses any advanced AI:

Example

python
sales = {
    "Mon": 12, "Tue": 9, "Wed": 11,
    "Thu": 14, "Fri": 22, "Sat": 30, "Sun": 25,
}
best_day = max(sales, key=sales.get)
average = sum(sales.values()) / len(sales)
print("Best day:", best_day)
print("Average sales per day:", round(average, 1))
Output
Best day: Sat
Average sales per day: 17.6

A machine learning model could go further and predict next week's sales, so Ali orders the right amount of stock.

Using a Chatbot for Real Work

Here is a prompt Ali could give to a chatbot like ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude:

Example

text
I run a small mobile accessories shop in Karachi.
Write 3 short WhatsApp messages (under 40 words each)
announcing a weekend sale: 20% off on chargers and earbuds.
Write one in English, one in Roman Urdu and one in simple Urdu.

The AI gives drafts in seconds. Ali still checks prices, spelling and tone before sending.

AI saves the most time on repeated tasks: writing similar messages, summarising, sorting data. Keep human judgement for decisions that affect money or people.

Challenges in Pakistan

  • Internet access and speed are uneven between cities and villages.
  • Many AI tools work best in English; Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi and Pashto support is improving but still weaker.
  • People need training to use AI well and safely.
  • Fake news and deepfake videos spread quickly on social media.
