AWS Tutorial
AWS (Amazon Web Services) is the biggest cloud platform in the world. Instead of buying your own servers, you rent computing power, storage and databases from Amazon and pay only for what you use.
Startups, banks, online shops and government websites all run on AWS. Knowing the basics of the cloud is now a useful skill for every IT student, developer and freelancer.
This tutorial starts from zero. You do not need to know any programming to read it, although a little command line knowledge helps.
What You Will Learn
- What cloud computing is and why companies use it
- How to create an AWS account and stay inside the free tier
- EC2: starting your own virtual server
- S3: storing files and hosting a simple website
- IAM: users, groups and permissions to keep your account safe
- Databases on AWS: RDS and DynamoDB
- Lambda: running code without managing a server
A First Look
Most AWS work can be done in the web console, but you can also use the AWS command line tool. This command lists your S3 storage buckets:
